I've got data on that drive I would really like to keep, but at this stage, it looks like my only option is to reformat that drive and start over.
Hard drive showing wrong free space update#
If anyone from QNAP is out there listening, how come the unit can't measure accurately the free space on the drive after a 'disk nearly full' warning? Not only that, but the unit is behaving worse after the firmware update to 3.1.1 than it did before, on firmware 2.0.4. A firmware update did not fix this issue, and the beeping is driving me nuts. The server accessing the iSCSI drive knows there is more room available on the disk, but the QNAP keeps beeping with the alert.

I updated the firmware, scanned the disk, but no matter what I do, even though half the disk is physically available, the QNAP insists the drive is almost full. Problem is, the QNAP still thought there was a disk space issue. Once I got access to the drive, I freed up about half the space on the 'nearly full' disk.

After firing the machine back up, I was able to get to the drive. Finally had to force a shutdown w/ the power button because the standard shutdown also hung. The QNAP hung, w/ processor at 100% and the iSCSI unavailable. The new partition or logical drive is created and appears in the appropriate basic disk in the Disk Management window. We ran into an issue with a 'disk nearly full' warning on our TS809 pro. I would really like to retrieve the data, but I don't know what to do? Do I have any options short of paying alot of money for professional data recovery? It was recoginized by the device manager, but did not assign a drive letter. I placed it into an enclosure, but still did not have any luck. The bios recoginized it, but indicated a SMART error and would not boot to it. I replace the board and the drive now starts up. I found a PCB replacement online that completely matched the bad one. After that, the drive would not power up. It had just booted up into Windows when I smelt it burning so I pulled the power. I think I had a bad power supply that caused a chip on the PCB to burn. I have a Maxtor drive that had a damaged PCB.

I am very interested and would appreciate any information you could share. You mentioned that you knew of some methods for retrieval. I recently read a post of yours in which you were discussing options for retrieving data from a failed Maxtor Drive. This showld solve your problem :) any doubt or issue, please send e-mail, I sow your message shearching web and on the fly. IF you DOT NOT HAVE ANY DATA TO RESTORE or UNDELET, becous this will DELETE anything on the drive, do as follow, select the Disk with the BLACK bar and on right-mouse click select "create Partition", "primary partition", maxim disk size to have all disk avaliable, and chose "NTFS" for disks with more than ~30GB or FAT32 to a Disk Size smaller than 30 and larger than 8GB etc. They all have a color bar on the TOP, HardDrives have it on BLUE, and you connect USB drive that you say that windows does not recognize, showld appear with the top bar on BLACK, meaning that has no partition on it. Now you're seeing your Disks, Disk0, Disk1, etc this deppend on the number of disks that you have and CDRom etc. Open "Control Panel", then open "Administrative tools", then open "computer management", in there select "Storage" and "Disk Management". I see two ways to solve that, a simple one and a bit difficult one.Ĭonnect your external HardDrive to your PC.
